(Japan Oct 2016) Day 1 and 2: Arrival at Tokyo, and then head for Nagoya.

Day 1 (30 Sep 2016) and Day 2 (1 Oct):
Arrival at Tokyo, and then head for Nagoya.

Soooooo sorry for my long absence from this travelblog.  I have photos from 2 Japan trips (Oct 2016 and Feb 2017) that are still on queue to be posted soon.
Hopefully I can finish uploading them before I head off for my Japan trip in May 2017.

My memory is kinda hazy for the details of this Oct 2016's Japan trip, since it happened like half a year ago. :)

Day 1: Singapore to Tokyo Haneda via Singapore Airlines flight.  Stay at Tokyo (Ueno)
We arrived at Haneda at night, and took the train to Ueno to check in to our hotel near Ueno station.

Taking train from Haneda Airport
We have stayed at this hotel near Ueno station during 1 of our previous trips with my bro and cousin R and PW, so I've liked its close proximity to the train station.  The room was small but comfortable.

After checking in, we head out to nearby convenience store to look for some supper.
As usual, my first meal of the trip is Katsudon (again). :)

Day 2: Tokyo to Nagoya.  Stay at Nagoya (JR railpass day 1)

We took a short Shinkansen ride in the early morning from Ueno to Tokyo station, and then Shinkansen again from Tokyo to Nagoya station.

The weather was cloudy, so we weren't able to see Mt Fuji during the train ride.
After checking in our luggage at the hotel near Nagoya station, we head out to catch pokemon as well as to get some lunch.
(Yes, catching a Far'fetched was 1 of our main objectives for this trip. lol)
Our room at Nagoya

Guess where we are headed for lunch? :)
Yup, it is our favourite crab restaurant, Kani-honke!!
We usually eat at their Hokkaido's Sapporo outlet, but since they have an outlet at Nagoya, so we usually tend to have at least 1 meal here every time we stopover at Nagoya.

After lunch, I headed for a nearby bookstore located in a building near Nagoya station to look for some japanese magazines (much cheaper to buy in Japan than from Singapore's Kinokuniya).
While taking the escalator up to the bookstore, I noticed that there's a One Piece store at the same building too!!!

Not going to bore you guys with photos of my jpop idol magazines, so gonna skip that entirely for now.
Here are the pics from my visit to the One Piece store.

Came across a CD store, and located Hey! Say! JUMP's corner under the Johnny's section (that even has a separator for the group Ya-Ya-yah!! But their single was already sold out)

Ok, back to strolling around Nagoya.

Bought some of these instant porridge packs from Tokyu Hands at Nagoya station.
Since miso katsu is 1 of the recommended food speciality for Nagoya, so we decided to go to 1 of the popular miso katsu restaurants (Yabaton) near Nagoya station for our dinner.
It is located at a underpass shopping street near the Shinkansen exit of Nagoya station.

There's usually a queue in front of the restaurant since it is popular with locals and tourists.

We actually spotted a Far'fetched near Nagoya station on this day, and we dashed like mad to try to catch it (it was back in the days when Pokemon usually disappears after 15mins or so, not the current 30mins).  But we missed it since we weren't familiar with the small alleyways.  Grrrr.

Our breakfast at the hotel

Gero

Bye bye to our hotel at Gero onsen.
Our hotel provides us with a van shuttle (very short ride, about 3 mins I think) to bring us from the hotel to Gero train station.

Locker area at Gero station.
Since we still had a little time to spare before having to catch our train, so we went to a souvenir shop opposite Gero station.
The buildings just across from Gero station. There are a few cafes and souvenir shops.

I bought 1 of these little pouches. Kinda expensive, but it looked so cute. The one which I bought had a pink lining on the inside. :)

More lockers at Gero station.

Bye bye Gero onsen.
Next up, our train ride from Gero to Nagoya on the Ltd Exp train.

It was close to noon time when we arrived at Nagoya.
There are quite a few places with lockers at Nagoya station.
However, we went to nearly ALL of the locker areas at Nagoya station and wasn't able to find any empty locker spots for our large sized luggage bags.
In the end, we went to the tourist info counter at Nagoya station, and the nice lady there advised us to go to another locker area at the basement near to the dept store, and that's where we finally found available spots for our luggage bags.

hello Kamenashi (from the group KAT-TUN) :)
After spending quite awhile to sort out our luggage storage issues, we were finally able to head out of Nagoya station and start our short exploration of Nagoya.

Our first stop, Alfred and my favourite king crab cuisine chain...Kani-honke!!
Everytime (and I do mean, EVERY TIME) the 2 of us come to Nagoya, we will always stop by Kani-honke for either lunch or dinner.
Kani-honke is actually originated from Sapporo in Hokkaido (where we've also eaten at that outlet many times too) and Nagoya is like one of the few other cities they have outlets at, outside of Hokkaido.  They don't even have any outlets at Tokyo nor Osaka.

Crab-cream croquettes

After lunch, we headed back towards Nagoya station.
The famous giant mannequin near Nagoya station.
We passed by a Samantha Vega boutique store along the way, and I fell in love with this limited edition My Melody bag (My Melody is my fav Sanrio character).
Thank you hubby for getting this bag for me.   :)

And then, while heading upstairs to look for the tax-rebate office, we saw this One Piece store sign, and of course, we'd want to stop by the One Piece shop too.

Next up, we went to Osu-Kannon area.
There's the Osu Kannon temple, as well as shopping streets with some budget shops too.

And then, we came across a Seria store.  Seria is a 100yen store, kinda like Daiso. I think we spent more than 1hr in here, buying loads of different items.
To be honest, I personally prefer the selections at Seria over Daiso.

This particular traffic light confused me a little.

Came across another 100yen store, but this is a smaller sized shop than compared to the Seria store earlier.

We then decided to head back to Nagoya station to buy some food from the dept store basement's food hall to eat on the train for dinner, and collected our luggage bags, and then took a Shinkansen to Shizuoka.
