Originally planned to go Hikone on this day, but there's a typhoon heading towards Kansai area. Therefore I decided to just hang out at Kyoto today for some shopping instead of leaving Kyoto and having the possibility of encountering train suspension.
Later in the day, I realised that I was correct in doing so...because I would have been stranded at Hikone if I had gone ahead with my original plan since many train lines was indeed suspended in the afternoon until evening.
Anyway, I spent nearly the entire day at the Yodobashi camera shopping mall opposite Kyoto station.
To start off this post, here's some pics of the common areas in the guesthouse I stayed at in Kyoto (Rakuza Guesthouse)

hi. I have been reading most of your Japan posts in preparation for my trip this may 2014. I am wondering which website did you use to check for typhoon, earthquake or worst case (tsunami alert)? As this is my first free and easy trip to Japan and i am not well-versed in their language, I hope to have some emergency preparedness since I would not be able to understand them.
